Chocolate Revel Bars

Bars of a buttery oat dough filled with a creamy layer of chocolate, condensed milk and walnuts.

Ingredients

Type a number or fraction (for example 0.5, 2 or 1/2) and the amounts recalculate.

  • 1 cupbutter or margarinereserve 2 tablespoons for the filling
  • 2 cupspacked brown sugar
  • 2eggs
  • 2 teaspoonsvanilla
  • 2 1/2 cupsflour
  • 1 teaspoonbaking soda
  • 3 cupsquick-cooking rolled oats
  • 14 ouncessweetened condensed milk
  • 2 cupssemisweet chocolate chips12 oz package
  • 1 cupchopped walnuts
  • 2 teaspoonsvanilla

Instructions

  1. Set aside 2 tablespoons of the butter. Beat the remaining butter for 30 seconds.
  2. Add the brown sugar and beat; add the eggs and 2 teaspoons of vanilla.
  3. Gradually stir in the flour with the baking soda, then add the oats.
  4. In a saucepan combine the condensed milk, the chocolate and the reserved butter; cook over low heat until the chocolate melts.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in the walnuts and 2 teaspoons of vanilla.
  6. Press two-thirds of the oat dough into the bottom of a greased 15x10 inch pan.
  7. Spread the chocolate filling on top and dot the remaining oat dough in small pieces over the chocolate.
  8. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25 minutes. Cool and cut into bars.

Notes and variations

  • Makes approximately 75 small bars.
